How to transcribe a video on iPhone or iPad

A useful quote does not need to stay buried in a recording. VideoScript turns spoken audio from videos in Photos into text you can read, copy and search.

Before you start

You need VideoScript on a compatible iPhone or iPad, a video in Photos with audible speech, and an active subscription for full access. Check the App Store listing for current device and system requirements.

Allow VideoScript to access the videos you want to import. If you use limited Photos access, only the videos you have allowed are visible. Keep a connection available if the source is in iCloud Photos or Apple needs to download speech-language assets.

Import and transcribe your video

  1. Choose a video from Photos

Open Home, tap the + button and select your video. The picker starts with Not yet added videos, newest first. If a clip is missing, open the picker filters or check your Photos permissions. Tap Add to continue.

  2. Choose the spoken language

On Process Videos, tap the language for a video. Choose a supported language manually, or choose Automatic to detect it from an audio sample. For several videos in the same language, use Language for all.

Automatic adds a detection step and may be less reliable with music, little speech or mixed languages. Choosing the language yourself skips that step.

  3. Start processing

Tap Start. Follow the progress on the processing screen. Completed videos leave the active processing list and are saved in your library.

  4. Read the result

Open the video from Home and find the Transcript section. Review names, numbers and unfamiliar terms against the recording before relying on the text.

Will this change my video in Photos?

Check Settings → Export Videos before processing. When enabled, the app can save an enriched replacement to Photos and request deletion of successfully replaced originals once the batch finishes. If you decline deletion, both copies may remain. Turn Export Videos off if you want the original in Photos left unchanged.

If transcription does not finish

Open the failed or unfinished video and read its explanation. Check that the clip contains audible speech, that the language matches, and that the source is still available. A manual language can help when Automatic could not identify the speech.

If processing was interrupted, use the unfinished-processing banner on Home or the available Resume control. Saved checkpoints can reuse completed work; recovery still needs an accessible source. See processing recovery help.

Use your saved transcript

You can now search for words across your saved videos or copy the transcript into your notes. A summary is a separate feature: it requires a supported Apple Intelligence device, enabled Apple Intelligence and a supported language. A missing summary does not mean the transcript was lost.
